From October 1st 2008 the Government announced that it would relax the rules for people wishing to convert their lofts and build rear extensions. For many people who had used up their permitted development, the only option was to seek planning permission from their local council to convert their lofts.

The good news is, that under the new laws, even if you have used your permitted volume elsewhere with an extension you can now convert your loft under building regulations without the need for planning permission.
